What IPTV Actually Is (And Why It Matters)

IPTV setups using stalkers have a defined set of workflow. The client application makes a handshake request to the portal address. The portal compares the MAC address with the database. In case the address is authorized, it provides a token. The token is then utilized in all other requests - loading channels, getting the EPG, streams.
Such architecture is not identical to other options of IPTV delivery and has certain implication: you cannot share a Stalker Portal subscription amongst devices in the same way that you can with certain other formats since each connection is associated with a registered MAC address.
Xtream Codes: The Alternative IPTV Protocol
Xtream Codes is also an entirely new IPTV panel system - and it happens to be one of the most popular in the industry. Where Stalker Portal is authenticating through MAC address, Xtream IPTV is authenticated through username and password system.
Xtream Codes connection needs three details, a URL of a server, a username, and a password. These are the credentials that your IPTV subscription service offers. When opened into an appropriate player, the application reads an M3U playlist and an XMLTV EPG feed - two standardised formats that are practically all recognised by IPTV players.
Since Xtream Codes is based on the standard username/password authentication, it can be used in a significantly expanded number of applications on IPTV players. Such applications as TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, and GSE Smart IPTV all allow logging in with native Xtream Codes. You just enter the URL, user name and password and the rest will automatically do the work.
Portability is one of the practical benefits of Xtream IP TV in comparison to Stalker Portal installations. Your Xtream credentials are compatible with various devices at the same time (depending on the connection limits of your provider), and you do not need to use a MAC address on each.
STBEmu vs. Xtream IPTV: Choosing the Right Approach
The two modes are IPTV content providers. The correct decision will play out based on what your provider accepts and what is the device you are operating.
In case your IPTV provider provides portal URL, you will use the STBEmu (or another compatible Mag device) and Stalker Portal authentication. In case the provider provides a username, password and server URL, then you are using Xtream Codes and you have a broader choice of compatible players.
There are certain IPTV providers who provide both options. Xtream IPTV would be simpler to configure and more device-compatible, in general, but STBEmu with Stalker Portal might provide a more organized, Mag-like interface, which is more to the liking of some users.
A Note on Legal Considerations
The IPTV technology is also completely legal. Applications such as STBEmu are legal software with justifiable purposes, which are testing, development and services to access licensed IPTV services. Legal and illegal services used Xtream Codes as a panel system, which was later prosecuted by the legal authorities in 2019.
