The German News Agency reports that Samsung Wallet application enables many new smartphone models to serve as digital keys across various cars including Audi, Volvo and Polestar models.
Samsung Wallet provides a digital car key storage system which enables users to forget their physical car keys at home without trouble.
Users who held Audi A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron and A5 series previously enjoyed this feature through Samsung. The new Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 owners now benefit from it.
How it works
A driver requires the Samsung Digital Key through the Samsung Wallet application but it must use a Samsung Galaxy S20 or ZFlip2 or ZFold2 or later version.
Through the Samsung Digital Key the driver can accomplish a remote locking and unlocking of the car and engine start together with trunk access with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system.
The digital key feature enables wireless sharing with friends and family as well as driver-controlled disabling abilities. Yet the user does not need to hold their smartphone when using this system.
The certified Knox security system from Samsung along with the EAL6+ security standard protects the digital key from theft in the Samsung Wallet application. A lost digital key can be handled through Samsung Find by blocking and removal methods.
The digital car key uses UWB (Ultra Wideband) technology together with standard Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) communication protocols for its transmission.
Volvo and Polestar models will soon join additional car brands which will be supported by the system.
