Smartphone killer 'AI Pen' dies before he turns one

The AI Pin established by Humane in November 2023 functions as a smartphone substitute while omitting a display screen and aims to transform computer technology operations thus it received its "smartphone killer" designation.

The AI Pen received negative user feedback when Humin released it in April 2024 at $699 combined with a $24 monthly subscription fee because users deemed it useless due to frequent malfunctions.

The smartphone killer faced swift failure within its first year because Human decided to sell AI Pen products to HP for $116 million while informing its customers about device system shutdowns before the month's end. This information came from TechCrunch.

The company declares its devices will become non-functional starting from a specified date and it tells customers to move essential information to different storage devices without delay.

Humin intends to dissolve its customer support operations by February 28 while providing refunds to recent product buyers based on the information posted on their FAQ page.

The recent announcement has caused great loss to Humin which launched its new hardware product last year amidst negative customer feedback. Humin obtained funding of more than $230 million from former Apple employees Imran Shadhri and Bethany Bongiorno before they started the company.

A significant number of early customers and reviewers disapproved of the AI Pen as it led to a business crisis along with declining sales compared to growing revenue at Humin. The product's situation worsened when Apple ordered its customers to stop using the charging case because of fire risks with batteries and the company later reduced the device price from $699 to $499 in October last year.

The acquisition of Human engineers and producers by HP created the new HP IQ group that develops AI innovations to establish intelligence throughout future HP products and services.

The acquisition of Humin's portfolio by HP resulted in the acquisition of their CosmOS AI operating system. This operating system allows users to run it on their vehicle's entertainment system as well as computer system or smart speakers and television and Android smartphones. This acquired technology has the potential to incorporate AI capabilities into future HP personal computers along with their printers.
